How To Switch Your Pet's Food
All of Life's Abundance foods contain essential fatty acids (EFAs) and 5 different types of probiotics, which can help keep your pet's coat, skin and tummy in good health. What Are You Really Feeding Your Pet?
Unless you prepare home-cooked meals or serve raw food to your pet, more than likely you are unknowingly buying pet food containing ingredients that may be harmful to the health & longevity of your pet!! We all know that regular consumption of "bad" foods & ingredients can harm human health-- unfortunately the same holds true for our pets.

- By-products - beaks, feet/feathers, etc.
- Corn, wheat or soy - known allergens, excessive carbohydrates
- Hormones, steroids - from non-organic meat sources
- Wheat gluten - inferior source of protein; involved in many pet food recalls
- Excess fluoride - from steamed bone meal
- Imported Ingredients - from countries like China, where dangerous toxins and poor quality proteins have been widely used in pet foods
- Chemical preservatives - BHA, BHT, ethoxyquin
- Sugars, corn syrup
- Beef fat - indigestible
- Artificial coloring/flavors - can be toxic
- The first ingredient listed on the label should always be meat or a meat/fish meal that is 100% pure (contains no by-products). Chicken meal is the most common but any type of meat meal provides the most concentrated nutrition- meaning that your pet will probably eat less than the usual amount & will thereby save you money. Organic meat is preferable as it lacks the hormones, steroids, antibiotics & other toxins that are present in conventional meats and poultry products. Organic fruits and veggies don't contain toxic pesticides.
- Avoid By-Products and all of the ingredients listed above - A lawsuit was recently generated against a major pet food manufacturer when customers noticed "chicken and/or fish meal" on the ingredients label of the product. The manufacturer had claimed that there were no by-products. AAFCO, the agency that monitors pet foods in the US, considers chicken/fish meal to be by-products, so the case has gone to court.
Please know that any chicken and/or fish meal used by Life's Abundance is made only from pure chicken meat and pure fish meat. The reason that AAFCO classifies chicken and fish meal as by-products is based on historical practices of most pet food manufacturers- in which they use ANYTHING BUT the meat of the chicken or fish. Please share this potentially life saving information with other pet guardians-- Mary Ellen advises that if you see your pet just picking at its food there is often something wrong with the food. Cats will often urinate around the home if they are eating bad food. If your pet vomits, has diarreah or refuses to eat, change their food immediately, consult your veterinarian, and report the product to the FDA website above. Be aware that there will be a time lapse between when pet parents discover bad food and when they report it to the FDA. It could also take a few months from the time the food, snack or toy is reported to when the products are actually recalled.
